The 2012 surface transportation law, “Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century” (MAP-21), expires in less than seven months. While the primary House and Senate committees of jurisdiction have launched aggressive reauthorization efforts of hearings and other outreach activities, the fundamental reality remains that the timing, duration, and size of the next surface transportation authorization bill is directly contingent on how Congress addresses the Highway Trust Fund’s (HTF) repeated revenue shortfalls.

As I complete my first year as Associate Division Chairman, I reflect on an enjoyable and involved past twelve months, and look forward to helping facilitate new opportunities in the next twelve months for Associate Members within the Chapter.
On November 5th, voters will be asked to cast their ballot on several issues concerning our state. The one of particular import to this association is Prop. 6, a water initiative that will provide a revolving account of $2 billion from the Rainy Day Fund for use in funding projects in the state water plan.
