Texas Gov. Greg Abbott told AGC members Monday (Dec. 4) that he feels “tied at the hip” with them because both are focused on improving mobility for motorists.
“You all are essential for me to be successful; you are essential for Texas to be successful,” the governor said during a reception at the AGC of Texas chapter office. “I am here collaboratively to work with you to make sure we find ways to build more roads.”
Abbott also pointed to his newly appointed Texas Transportation Commission Chairman Bruce Bugg Jr., who he praised for doing a “fabulous job.”
Bugg’s successful business experience means “he knows how to get things done. We don’t want process. We want results. And Bruce is a man of results,” the governor said, earning more applause. “We are working on strategies to make sure that we build more roads in Texas.
“You want it. But guess who wants it just as much as you do? I want it. But guess who wants it more than you and I? All of the people stuck on roads right now trying to get home,” the governor said.
“They deserve more roads, and, by God, we are going to give them more roads!” Abbott said, drawing applause.
