Voters in 22 states approved 193 of the 280 state and local transportation investment measures on their ballots Nov. 8. The general election success followed voter support for 76 of 81 transportation funding measures in primary elections earlier in the year.
As we begin 2017, the Texas Department of Transportation is preparing for two very important events: first, our 100th year of service to the citizens of Texas, and second is the 85th Legislative Session and our department’s Sunset review.
The Texas Legislature will be in general session for 140 days. A lot can happen in that time frame, and AGC members must be vigilant. The Texas Legislature will pass laws that affect: 1) transportation funding, 2) TxDOT, and 3) the general business environment.
HONDO – AGC members are primarily focused on building good roads and bridges and helping ensure adequate construction funding. The association also keeps members on top of the pressing issues of the day.

Timothy Dean Word, Jr., a leader in the Texas highway construction business, passed away on Christmas Day. Tim, 87, served as president of the AGC of Texas Chapter in 1979 and as national president of AGC in 1995.
